6-1/26- Day 1 - From Mountain Harbor to Stan MurrayShelter

A tough day on the trail, but then Day 1 always is. The hike was 11.25 miles with 4000 feet of elevation gain. The first 5 miles was all up hill to the top of Humpy Mountain in the Roan highlands. It rained hard the first 3 hours and the last two. Sometimes, the rain blew horizontally due to the strong winds. Fortunately, I was generating enough body heat to not get badly chilled, but as I write this, I’m in my 10 degree sleeping bag wearing long johns and a puffy coat; going to be a cold night at elevation.

Met a few interesting hikers along the way and am sharing a shelter with a professor from Nova Scotia, so the conversation has been interesting.

Signing off for now, 13 miles tomorrow with less elevation gain and hoping for little or no rain.

Happy Trails,

Whistler.
