6/3/26- Day 3 - Clyde Smith Shelter to mile 1840

Updated: Jun 5

Made it through another day of climbing. I was hoping after 2 straight days of climbing day three might have been a little flatter, but no such luck. The day started, and finished, bright and clear which was a welcome change, and it was cool enough for great hiking. The elevation change was nearly as great as the first few days. Today’s last 6 miles were all up hill, except for the last .4. The good news is, tomorrow, I descend from my current 5200 feet to 1800 in the town of Irwin. I’ll spend one night there, to pick up a box and get cleaned up, then head to Hot Springs for another break.

My legs should be ready after another day or two. It’s hard to train in Iowa, because the curbs are the highest thing around.

Time to sign off for another night.

Whistler out.
