6/4/26- Day 4. Camping at mile 1840- SOBO to Uncle Johnny’s hostel in Irwin, TN.

Up early and on the trail. The second day, with glorious weather, today’s hike was mostly down hill out of the mountains, so the exercise level was pretty light, even considering the 14 miles traveled. However, if you asked my ankles and knees, they might not agree. I’ve always said; uphill makes you sweat, down hills make you hurt and today proved that point. After the Beauty Spot, yes that’s its real name as shown in my pictures,  there wasn’t much to take pictures of. I got to my hostel around 3:30 and had to take a quick shower to make the afternoon shuttle in to town. I went with two other hikers; one a high school shop teacher from Columbus, Ohio and the other was a retired fellow from Whitefish, Montana, which is just a few minutes  from where Sean and I have been hunting the past few years. We had a nice dinner with plenty of stories.

Now I’m back at the hostel sorting out my dirty clothes to do laundry, sorting out my food for the next section, and resting my feet. Tomorrow will be a rest day, so there won’t be much to report, but I’m thinking of you all and looking forward to continuing my journey.

Whistler out for now.

Beautiful pictures! Sounds like an awesome experience. Great description of uphill vs downhill :)
