Somewhere in a Rhododendron Swamp to The Refuge Hostel
Up early to escape the black flies that are tormenting CLE and onward towards the town of Roan Mountain. The trail takes us 16 miles today, with plenty of ups and downs, but we saw some waterfalls and a stream; that was a nice change from just green trees. No bears, yesterday or today, even though there have been trouble makers close by.
Today, the weather turned warm which is tough especially when it comes to climbs, but it’s still just one foot in front of the other and on the trail goes.
I’ve done 165 miles this trip, or about 400,000 steps and 3000 floors climbed. My legs feel great, my feet aren’t nearly as happy, but they’re not bad. My boots that have over 1,000 miles on them, are still going strong.
Until tomorrow, Whistler signing off for another night with the bears.
