Boots off- to on the trail again!

CLE is back with his car and our supplies. He made good time even with a stop to get himself a bear canister, as the I’d reported bear activity ahead.

We’re almost ready to go, but one of the other hikers convinced him to smear himself with scented body lotion to sooth his bug bites. I warned him all that would do is attract more bugs, or a bear. We’re at the height of black fly season here, but he knows better.

I managed to get 8.5 miles out of him before his knees were “screaming” so we stopped for the day. I set up my hammock and his tent, and sat down to relax. Hardly had a black fly around me, but poor CLE was surrounded by, and being eaten alive by them, and couldn’t understand why. He ate a quick dinner and climbed into his tent. He was up really early though, as he said the flies were between his tent and the rain fly, and he could see them there, so he couldn’t sleep.

Oh well. I believe this year’s hike is about over. I traveled fewer miles than expected, but had some interesting adventures.

More tomorrow. Whistler over and out.
