White Top Mountain to Saunders shelter.
Great day to hike. The first 8 miles were down followed by 4.5 up. We had some of the best views of the trip so far. We went over Buzzard Rock where there is a 360 degree view of southern Virginia. Then we followed the “Virginia Creeper” trail, a biking and walking trail towards Damascus, which is our destination. Along the way, a hiker from Sheridan, Wyoming offered to get me an invite to the Weatherby and tour. That will have to take place on my way elk hunting, this fall. But back to hiking the AT…once in Damascus a day of rest, resupply and laundry, is on the agenda, along with maybe a hot meal or two. Damascus is known as “Trail Town USA” and is also very active in the biking community, so it should be interesting.
Whistler signing off until tomorrow from Trail Town.
